Rename My Screenshot (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is developed by Outside The Box Development Inc.. We take your privacy seriously and have designed our app to collect zero personal data.

This Privacy Policy explains how Rename My Screenshot handles information. The simple answer: we don't collect any personal information at all.

The Short Version

  • All processing happens on your Mac (100% on-device)
  • No data is sent to our servers or any third party
  • No analytics, tracking, or telemetry
  • No accounts, no passwords, no sign-up
  • Subscriptions handled by Apple (we never see your payment info)

Information We Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information.

All data created by the app remains on your Mac:

Local Data Storage (On Your Mac Only)

1. Screenshot Analysis Data

  • Text extracted from your screenshots (OCR)
  • Detected application names
  • Keywords generated for filenames

Purpose: Generate intelligent filenames and enable search

Storage: Local SwiftData database on your Mac

Retention: Configurable (default 30 days, up to 365 days)

Never transmitted anywhere

2. Rename History

  • Original and new filenames
  • File paths
  • Timestamps of renames

Purpose: Enable undo functionality and history viewing

Storage: Local SwiftData database on your Mac

Never transmitted anywhere

3. App Preferences

  • Your settings (filename templates, folder selections, etc.)

Purpose: Remember your preferences

Storage: macOS UserDefaults (local)

How We Process Your Data

100% On-Device AI Processing

The app uses Apple's built-in frameworks to analyze screenshots:

  • Apple Vision Framework: Extracts text from screenshots (OCR)
  • Apple NaturalLanguage Framework: Identifies keywords for filenames
  • All processing happens locally on your Mac
  • No cloud AI services used
  • No external API calls
  • Your screenshots never leave your device

No Cloud Processing

Unlike many AI-powered apps, Rename My Screenshot does NOT:

  • Send screenshots to cloud servers
  • Use external AI APIs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.)
  • Upload any data for processing
  • Store anything on remote servers

Information We DO NOT Collect

Name, email, or contact information
Payment or financial information
Usage statistics or analytics
Crash reports or diagnostics
Device identifiers
IP addresses
Location data
Cookies or tracking data

Third-Party Services

Apple Services

StoreKit (Subscriptions):

  • Subscription management is handled entirely by Apple
  • Apple processes all payments
  • We never receive your payment information or email address

That's it.

No other third-party services are used:

  • No analytics services
  • No crash reporting services
  • No advertising networks
  • No social media integrations

Permissions

The app requests the following macOS permissions:

1. File Access

  • Why: To read and rename screenshot files
  • Scope: Only folders you explicitly select
  • Control: You choose which folders to monitor

2. Notifications

  • Why: Optionally notify you when screenshots are renamed
  • Control: Can be disabled in app settings or System Settings

The app does NOT request:

  • Camera, microphone, or screen recording
  • Contacts, calendar, or location
  • Full disk access
  • Accessibility features

Data Security

Your data is protected by:

  1. Local-Only Storage: Everything stays on your Mac
  2. App Sandbox: The app runs in a restricted macOS sandbox
  3. No Network Transmission: No data sent to external servers
  4. macOS Security: Protected by your Mac's built-in security features

Your Responsibility:

  • Keep your Mac secure with a strong password
  • Keep macOS updated with the latest security patches
  • Consider enabling FileVault disk encryption

Data Retention & Deletion

Automatic Deletion

  • Rename history is automatically deleted after your configured retention period (default: 30 days)
  • You can configure retention from 1-365 days in app settings

Manual Deletion

You can delete data anytime:

  • Clear individual history items
  • Clear all history in app settings
  • Reset the app to defaults (removes all settings and history)

Uninstalling the App

When you delete Rename My Screenshot:

  • All local data is automatically removed
  • No data remains on our servers (because we don't have any)

Data Sharing

We do not share your data with anyone. Period.

  • We don't sell your data
  • We don't share data with advertisers
  • We don't provide data to third parties
  • We don't have servers that store your data

Your Privacy Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your Mac, you have complete control:

  • Access: View your rename history anytime in the app
  • Delete: Clear history or reset the app anytime
  • Export: Rename history is in a standard SwiftData database on your Mac
  • Control: Configure retention periods, disable features, or uninstall

We cannot fulfill traditional data access requests because we don't collect or store your data on our servers.

Children's Privacy

Rename My Screenshot is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Since we don't collect any personal information at all, there is no risk of collecting children's data.

International Users

The app processes all data locally on your device, regardless of where you are located. No data crosses borders because no data leaves your Mac.

GDPR (Europe)

  • No personal data collected or processed by us
  • No data transfers
  • You have complete control over local data

CCPA (California)

  • No personal information sold
  • No personal information shared
  • No personal information collected by us

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change how we handle privacy (for example, if we add analytics in a future version), we will:

  1. Update this Privacy Policy with a new “Last Updated” date
  2. Notify you through the App Store update description
  3. For material changes, display an in-app notification

Continued use of the app after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.

Mac App Store Privacy Label

Our App Store privacy label accurately reflects these practices:

  • Data Used to Track You: None
  • Data Linked to You: None
  • Data Not Linked to You: None

The only exception is that Apple handles subscription purchases through StoreKit, which is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

We built Rename My Screenshot with privacy as a core principle:

  • We chose on-device AI instead of cloud AI for privacy
  • We chose local storage instead of cloud storage for privacy
  • We chose no analytics because we respect your privacy
  • We chose simplicity: no accounts, no tracking, no data collection

Your screenshots are yours. We designed the app so we literally cannot access them, even if we wanted to.
